“A Day in the Life,” at the
44th   Presidential Inauguration

In January 2009, the Brunswick Arts Council along with The Stafford Foundation is providing a unique opportunity for four Brunswick County youth to attend inauguration events in Washington, DC.

The Stafford Foundation is a faith-based, nonprofit organization that helps the underserved,
marginalized and distressed and in collaboration with other organizations, will host children, the indigent, the homeless and other underprivileged persons during the inauguration.  This year’s inaugural celebration, then, truly will be the people’s inaugural celebration.

The Stafford Foundation has underwritten the initial cost of these events at the J.W. Marriott in Washington, D.C.; costs will exceed $1 million.  This investment ensures that participants in the People’s Inaugural Project can enjoy the events and their stay free of charge.

The Brunswick Arts Council, wrote The Stafford Foundation and informed them of the work the council is doing to help underprivileged and at risk youth in Brunswick County including the Art Council’s “A Day in the Life,” program which helps such young people experience events and programs that are otherwise inaccessible to them.  The Foundation responded by sending Mr. Landrine six invitations to the People’s Inaugural Project for two chaperones and four youth.

With only a couple of days to select attendees, John Landrine and Inger Marlowe, President of Multicultural Programs as chaperones; along with the Arts Council division presidents and the Hispanic-Latino Programs Division of Brunswick Community College, selected Crystal Williams – 17 of Calabash, Esli Nunez – 17 of Shallotte, Jasmine Marlowe-15 of Calabash and Justin Simons – 17 of Supply for this inaugural A Day in the Life program.

While most expenses are included such as rooms, most meals and even grooming and proper attire for the main ball; travel and other incidentals are needed which were estimated to be $1200.

Donations were raised by the Brunswick Arts Council and the  trip was a great and wonderful experience for the youth and the chaperones.

Our appreciation and thanks go to the wonderful work and support of the Stafford Foundation for its funding of this "once in a lifetime experience" for their  support.  If you wish to learn more about the projects and work of their organization go to:
