Brunswick Arts Council Overview

- A non-profit 501 (C)3 organization
- All volunteer Board of Directors.
The Brunswick Arts Council's leadership recognizes that the rapidly growing Brunswick will be faced with many challenges from its swelling population. Quality of life is an issue. Offering a broad range of time and experiences will be an expectation of residents who have recently relocated from other metropolitan areas.

Objectives
From the Brunswick Arts Council Board of Directors:
- Create, implement programs for children, youth of Brunswick County that are designed to encourag
- e participation in the arts while enhancing their education.
- Arts integration in the schools curriculum.
- Create, implement, support and develop programs for benefit of Brunswick County residents
- Aspire to achieve cultural diversity
- Provide broad range of performance venues in Brunswick County
- Be a resource for existing artists to support their artistic endeavors
- Coordinate with social, religious and educational institutions, to achieve maximum participation and attendance at Council sponsored events.
- Disburse all Scholarship monies to qualified recipients as allocated by the established funding guidelines.
- Raise funds to support the operations of the Brunswick Arts Council
- Plan for the future needs of the arts population in Brunswick County
- Approve and maintain oversight of the annual budget
Operating Divisions
In 2007, former President, Gary Halberstadt, devised an organization structure to accomplish its objectives.
- Literary Arts, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Multi-Cultural Arts, Art Education will work autonomously within their genre to provide programming and events for the people of Brunswick County.
- Each of the art division art disciplines will work in conjunction with the Art Student operating division to provide targeted programming for students and youngsters in the schools.
- With the creation of a Art Student Education Division, the Board of Directors undertook an approach to more clearly define the need for the Brunswick Arts Council to target area youngsters and students. The concept that students who participate in the arts become better overall students is supported by numerous studies.
- By laws have been amended to reflect the new structure and staffing. The operating divisions are staffed with a President and supporting members who are implementing created programs to satisfy the objectives of the Brunswick Arts Council.
Brunswick Arts Council and Brunswick County Board of Education Resolution (AIS)
On May 6th, 2008 the Brunswick Arts Council adopted a:
"Resolution to request the North Carolina State Legislature deem the Joint Project of the Brunswick Arts Council and the Brunswick County Board of Education to integrate Arts into the academic curriculum of Brunswick County Schools a North Carolina State approved pilot program..........................."
The joint project has received the support of Senator R.C Soles, Jr. stating:
"A very important and innovative program is being established by the Brunswick Arts Council and communities in schools of Brunswick County to prevent school dropouts by incorporating the arts into the curriculum. I am very much in favor the this program and based on what a few other states have accomplished. It should provide great benefit in the effort to prevent school dropouts and to encourage graduation by students."
As stated by Brunswick Arts Council President Gary Halberstadt, "the Board of Education has not only agreed to partner with the Brunswick Arts Council, but the Board of Directors has passed a resolution to that effect. In addition, to the Board of Education, the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners, Communities in Schools and the ABCPOA have all endorsed our joint efforts and CIS has additionally resolved to partner with the Council in after school arts integrated activities that could be designed as an after school extension of the arts integrated program, as well as, expanding their stand alone arts program".

Funding
The Brunswick Arts Council secures funds from:
- Membership Dues and Contributions
- Donations from businesses, corporations and individuals
- Grants - State and National
The NC Grassroots program through the NC Arts Council, has been a mainstay grant program for the Council since inception. The mandate for offering Grassroots grants is that the Brunswick Arts Council organization is to provide a Literary, Visual, Performing, and Multi-Cultural art programs and must provide matching funds for the amount requested. Brunswick Arts Council distributed funds to the Associate Artists of Southport, Brunswick Parks & Recreation, Brunswick Concert Band, Sea Note Choral Society and others.
The Board of Directors of the Brunswick Arts Council from the inception to today, work enthusiastically to promote, inspire and develop art programs and provide funding for all of the residents of Brunswick County.
