Scholarship Programs
A. Dameron
Allan Dameron, held numerous Leadership positions in the community and a generous contributor to a number of organizations and causes, including but not limited to, the Brunswick Arts Council, Communities in Schools, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Literacy Council, Cancer Fund Raisers.
In honor of Mr. Dameron, his wife Lydia established the Allan Dameron Memorial Scholarship jointly with the Brunswick Arts Council. This year the Scholarship award went to:
Brian Gore, Senior at West Brunswick High School is the 2010 scholarship recipient.
The Scholarship Committee selected Brian Gore as the 2010 recipient of the $1,000. Scholarship Award presented by the Allan Dameron family and the Brunswick Arts Council.
There were 13 candidates and it was a difficult decision. However, Brian Gore, is a excellent and worthy candidate for the scholarship award.
I met with the young man after the presentation and he was very appreciative and sends his personal "Thank You" to you for the scholarship award. I attach a photograph for your records.
This young man has recieved his undergraduate admission letter of acceptance to UNC Charlotte, to pursue a higher education degree as a Fine Arts major in Art Education. He will begin this Fall.
While in elementary and middle school he participated in art elective studies and continued to study visual arts through high school. His artistic accomplishments and talents have been recognized by his teachers, peers and his outstanding art work has been displayed at various venues.
Academic achievements include membership in the National Honor Society with a overall GPA of 4.4 and ranks #8 in his graduating class of 271.
Leadership qualities:
Brian has been a participant in the (SALT) Student Athletic Leadership Team, active member of FBLA and served as a Junior Marshall 2009 graduation.
He played on the Varsity Basketball Team for three years and his peers unanimously elected him as the Captain of the varsity team.
Comunity Leadership:
Demonstrated by his willingness to volunteer in community "clean ups" for the elderly in Holden Beach area and has served as a after school tutor at the Cedar Grove Missionary church for the last two years.
Financial Need:
There is a definite financial need for this scholarship due to the fact that Brian's father has periods of unemployment as an electrician. His mother is a postal worker.
Brian also contributes financially by maintaining a active work schedule which overlaps a portion of each school year and yet has achieved a outstanding academic performance at school.
I was very impressed and gained insight about Brian Gore from this quote from one of his teachers, " Brian has always been a hard worker. He has distinguished himself from others by consistently finishing "everything" he starts. Brian is a awesome artist and is always willing to help his fellow classmates perfect their artistic abilities.....he displays these qualities while exhibiting a positive attitude toward life and education."
Thank you again Lydia for establishing this memorial scholarship program jointly with the BAC.
Your generosity is very much appreciated by everyone.
I look forward to speaking with you soon.
