President's Message

Welcome!

2009-10 Brunswick County Arts Council

Our mission in the county is to inspire and promote appreciation, education, participation and support for a broad range of arts and cultural interests for the benefit of Brunswick County artists and arts related organizations, students and the community at large.

During the past few years we have expanded our outreach to the community by addressing the drop out rate of our school children.  We have procured monies from the Board of Education, Brunswick County Board of Commissioners and the State of North Carolina to develop cultural arts programs to broaden the students interests enough to complete their high school education.  To develop these programs teachers, educators, visual, literary, multicultural, performing arts instructors have been solicited to help.  In order to carry out this endeavor we have installed a Brunswick County Schools curriculum Coordinator on our Board of Directors.

To fulfill our mission in the county we have set up five divisions in our organization with the Presidents of each division presiding on our Board of Directors.

The Literary Division: Seeks to enrich people’s lives through sharing he love of the creative use of words. Creates vehicles for artists to communicate their thoughts and feelings.  To mentor young word artists into published authors of all mediums.  Provides support during their transformations through education and practical experience.

The Performing Arts Division:  Will promote, support and participate in providing programs that will encompass stage, musical and all types of individual performances which will contribute to and enhance the appreciation, cultural and educational experiences for the children, adults and visitors of Brunswick County.

The Visual Arts Division: The Visual Arts Division mission is to promote support and participate in providing programs for the children, adults and art organizations of Brunswick County that will encompass all forms of two dimensional and three dimensional arts.

The Student Arts Education Division:  In partnership with the Brunswick County Schools, the Student Arts Education Division works to increase awareness of the vital role the arts can play in teaching and learning.

The Multicultural Programs Division:  The mission of this program is to develop programs to reach and make a positive impact on minority residents and at-risk children.  Search and solicit membership in the Council among minority communities, both organizational and individual.

Starting in 2009 the Brunswick County Arts council has hired an executive director.  The director will oversee all divisions and set up computer programs to serve our membership of over 400.  The director will serve as head of the five divisions and hold separate meetings to expand and serve all of the councils members to the fullest.

At the present time Brunswick County Arts council serves the community by:
  • Scholarships
  • Individual Artist Grants
  • Group Grants
  • County wide art shows and auctions
  • Free bus trips to regional art venues
  • Free annual membership dinner
  • Arts in School Initiative
  • Vocational Arts Enrichment Programs (VoArt)
  • Local Talent searches
  • Musical Instruments and lessons for low income
             students
  •       County Youth Choir
  •       County Symphony Orchestra
  • Choral Organization
  • Concert Band
  •       Friends of the Libraries
  •       High School Camp Programs
  •       Art Guilds
  •       Parks and Recreation Programs
  •       Children’s Music and Art Programs

Our sixteen Board of Directors feel that the arts are the key to the quality of life and the health of the economy.  Our council was founded in 1981 to bring artistic programs, shows, workshops and exhibits to Brunswick County.  We soon became the Designated Partner of the North Carolina Arts Council to assist other non-profit art organizations through the Grassroots funding program.  Today with over 400 members we have expanded our programs and plan to keep growing with hopes of a future cultural arts center building.

Thank you for visiting our website to learn about the Brunswick Arts Council and its programs.  We hope you will join us in our efforts to fulfill our mission to "bring arts to community".  There are many ways you can support these efforts by serving on our board, division programs, as a volunteer or help us with our fundraising efforts to continue the many valuable needs of Brunswick County.
